Figures Reveal Rise In Relationship Breakdown Related To Older Generations
The increase in the number of people over 65 who are divorcing highlights how attitudes towards separation have continued to change in recent decades, according to specialist family lawyers.
According to the Daily Mail, figures from the Office for National Statistics have shown nine per cent of over-65s were divorced in 2011 - which was twice as many as the number recorded just ten years earlier.
The research also suggested that a growing number of older people are choosing to consider cohabitation ahead of marriage, although it also revealed those who live together without tying the knot are more likely to separate.
According to Irwin Mitchell’s specialist Family Law team, the figures indicate how attitudes and lifestyles in the 21st century have shifted from previous norms.
