Man Calls On Legal Specialists To Secure Financial Support To Aid Recovery
A motorcyclist who suffered a serious foot injury and required reconstructive surgery on his shoulder after his bike was struck by a car has revealed how he feels “lucky to be alive”, after instructing specialist lawyers to help him gain vital funds to support his recovery.
Philip Haines, from Sapcote in Leicestershire, was told by doctors that he was very lucky to still have his right foot following the incident on March 22nd this year close to Ashby de la Zouch, when a car struck his motorcycle as he waited at a roundabout.
As well as suffering a serious degloving injury to his foot, Philip suffered a broken shin bone, needed reconstructive surgery on his right shoulder and was left with mild kidney and liver damage.
Now, after instructing serious injury lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to help him gain access to vital financial support to aid his recovery, Philip has spoken on how he is taking life one day at a time following the devastating incident.
Philip Haines, 55, was riding his motorcycle with his wife riding pillion when the incident happened on Measham Road at the junction with the A42 at Ashby de la Zouch.
He recalls: “We were waiting behind a car to enter a roundabout when a car came from the right, struck the vehicle in front and then came into us. I was conscious throughout and in absolute agony, everything happened so fast.”
Following the crash, Philip was taken by air ambulance to Walsgrave Hospital in Coventry, where he received treatment for the range of injuries he suffered. He remained in hospital for almost a month, while his wife also suffered a punctured right leg and damage to her foot.
The fleet service manager adds: “I feel so lucky to be alive after what happened. In terms of my foot, doctors told me I was very lucky that it could be saved considering the severity of the injuries I suffered.
“I am determined to walk again after the crash but I also recognise it is very early days and I am taking it a day at time. This crash has completely turned my life upside down, as I need support for basic day-to-day tasks like showering and still have no idea when I’ll be able to return to work.
“I would urge any road users to always put safety first, in the hope that no one else faces what I am going through.”
