Product Liability Lawyers Call For Thorough Investigation
Mobile operator EE has announced a recall of around 500,000 portable mobile phone chargers over fears the devices may not be safe.
The recall of the Power Bars comes after five separate incidents of the products overheating were reported by customers, one of whom suffered burns to their hand.
Media reports claim a medical student from Aberdeen suffered burns when her charger exploded and set fire to her bedroom floor.
EE said products in the E1-06 batch, which is featured on the side of the devices, could pose a fire safety risk. The company urged consumers to stop using the Power Bars affected by the problems and to return them to their local EE store.
The chargers were given away for free to every EE customer in April and allow users to completely charge a dead phone battery once. Around 1.5 million Power Bars were handed out to customers.

Expert Opinion
Manufacturers and retailers have a duty to consumers to ensure the products they release to the market are safe for use.

“We welcome the decision to recall the products in the E1-06 batch of Power Bars but it is crucial the company launches an investigation into the manufacturing and testing process for these devices and why potentially dangerous products made it to consumers.

“Lessons must be learned from the problems discovered with these products and it is vital consumers are reassured that everything possible is being done to prevent similar issues and that the manufacturing and testing process is of the highest quality.
