Expert Asbestos-Related Disease Lawyers Investigating Asbestos Exposure At Textile Factory
A former textile worker has instructed specialist asbestos-related disease lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate how and where she was exposed to asbestos after being diagnosed with mesothelioma.
The incurable cancer is caused by exposure to asbestos and it can take decades for symptoms to develop which is why Maureen Anstiss, 74, from Batley, is appealing for help from her former workmates as she gathers information for her legal case.
Maureen worked as a rag and woollen sorter for much of her time in the textile industry and believes she may have been exposed to asbestos while employed by Charles M Gaunt and Sons Limited between 1972 and 1983.
She recalls that the material she handled during her work came from a variety of sources, including heavy industry, and this may have been how she was exposed to the hazardous substance.
Maureen and her legal team at Irwin Mitchell are now calling on her former colleagues at Charles M Gaunt and Sons to come forward with any information on the presence of asbestos at the premises and what measures, if any, were in place to protect workers from exposure to the deadly dust.
Mark Aldridge, a lawyer specialising in asbestos-related disease cases at Irwin Mitchell representing her, said:
Maureen, a grandmother-of-seven and greatgrandmother-of-three, said: “My diagnosis was a complete shock to me and I never thought I would ever develop cancer as a result of my work. Although the sorting job I did was really dirty and dusty, nobody ever warned us that we were putting our future health at risk.
“My family and I are extremely worried about what the future holds for me as I know the mesothelioma is going to affect my day-to-day life and ultimately cut the time I will spend with my family short.
“I am now hoping my former colleagues will come forward with any information they have on the presence of asbestos at Charles M Gaunt and Sons to help me understand how I was exposed to the material responsible for my cancer.”
