Expert Illness Lawyers Launch Investigation into Conditions at Hotel
International personal injury lawyers at Irwin Mitchell are investigating conditions at a Spanish resort that has been described as ‘atrocious’ after a family holiday was ruined when 20 holidaymakers suffered serious gastric illness.Jillian Hajrizi, from Rotherham, travelled to the Azuline Mar Amantis resort, in San Antonio, Ibiza, in May this year for a two-week break with her husband Labinot and 18 other family members. But they say the holiday turned into a ‘nightmare’ when they all fell ill with sickness, diarrhoea and abdominal pains.
17 members of the group have now instructed expert international travel law experts at Irwin Mitchell to investigate the conditions they faced which included:
• Dirty bedding and ants in their rooms which were reported to the hotel reception staff on two occasions
• Undercooked food, including chicken and sausage, which was sometimes served in the buffet
• A dirty swimming pool which had debris and algae in the water
• Cutlery and crockery which was often dirty
It has also been reported that, on one occasion, a family member found a shard of glass in an omelette prepared by the restaurant chef.
Jatinder Paul, an expert international personal injury lawyer at Irwin Mitchell representing the family, said:
Expert Opinion
We are very concerned to hear of the conditions this family have reported experiencing at the Azuline Mar Amantis resort.
“It is shocking that 20 members of the same family have all suffered serious gastric symptoms, some of whom are children who can be more susceptible to long-term health problems as a result. In particular, Jillian’s 11 year old son suffers from epilepsy and as a result of the severe vomiting and diarrhoea that he suffered; he experienced seizures and required significant care from Jillian.

The majority of the family arrived at the three-star resort on the 14 May and say they soon noticed the standards were not what they hoped for.
Jillian, 47, said: “The standard of some of the food being served in the restaurant was not acceptable with some of the food undercooked and I even found a shard of glass in my omelette at one meal time - we were very disappointed.
“The facilities in the hotel and pool area were below the standard that we had expected. It was a nightmare and it did not feel like a suitable place for families.
“Within days we all began to fall ill with horrendous diarrhoea and sickness which left many of us confined to our hotel rooms. It completely ruined the holiday.
“Nothing can make up for what happened but we hope that with help from our legal team we can gain answers about what caused us to fall so ill in the hope improvements can be made to prevent anyone else from going through a similar ordeal.”
