Lawyers Who Have Launched Legal Action against Dunn’s Dairy Beacon View Farm following illness Outbreak Call for Action
Specialist lawyers representing 11 people affected by gastric illness symptoms, after consuming milk products from Dunn’s Dairy in Devon in June last year, have revealed their concerns after fresh reports of illness potentially linked to another dairy in the region.
The Food Standards Agency has issued a recall related to raw cow’s drinking milk produced by Barton Farm Dairy, near Barnstaple, after a potential link was identified with two cases of the E.coli O157 infection.
It is reported that Barton Farm Dairy has issued product recall notices to its customers and that it will place information on its website outlining what consumers should do if they have purchased affected products.
Irwin Mitchell’s specialist illness lawyers have expertise having helped thousands of victims of illness outbreaks in the UK and abroad to gain answers and justice regarding the problems.
As well as acting for victims who have faced E.coli O157 problems, the team notably represent 11 people –including several with confirmed cases of campylobacter – affected by illness after consuming products from Dunn’s Dairy at Beacon View Farm near Exeter in June last year. While a recall of the milk was issued regarding the suspected problems at Dunns Dairy, for some the warning simply came too late and meant that some people suffered significant illness. Even months on, some of the victims Irwin Mitchell are instructed by continue to suffer health issues and are coming to terms with what they have been through. Liability is denied by Dunn’s Dairy.
Amandeep Dhillon, a Partner and specialist in public health and illness outbreaks at Irwin Mitchell, said: “It is very welcome to see the Food Standards Agency and the dairy itself taking steps to address these problems and ensure that the priority at present is the safety of consumers who may have consumed affected products.
“However, in due course attention must turn to a thorough investigation of the issues which have been raised and how they have emerged. Our work helping thousands of illness victims every year means we see the impact that illnesses such as E.coli can have on people of all ages.
“In the short-term this can mean serious gastric illness symptoms and disruption such as having to take time off work, but there are also longer-term health issues which can also develop and create a lasting impact.
“To see another potential illness issue linked to a dairy in Devon emerge is concerning and it is vital that authorities work to determine the cause, as well as whether there are any lessons which could be learned to improve safety standards going forward.”
