Latest Partner Appointment Boosts Firm’s London Commercial Team
National law firm Irwin Mitchell has appointed leading Restructuring & Insolvency specialist Edward Judge to its Business Legal Services (BLS) team as part of a strategic drive to expand its commercial offering.
Based in the firm’s London office, Edward is the 21st new partner to be announced by Irwin Mitchell’s commercial practice since the start of 2012.
His appointment follows other lateral hires into the firm’s London office which include new head of commercial litigation Nigel Kissack, contentious tax partner Phil Berwick, and intellectual property specialist Georgie Collins. His appointment also follows the appointment last year of Manchester-based John Vickery into the firm’s specialist national insolvency team.
Edward, who leaves SGH Martineau LLP, specialises in all areas of corporate restructuring and recovery covering both contentious and non-contentious work. He acts for insolvency practitioners, creditors and company directors and advises on all stages of insolvency, from initial advice through to arranging formal and informal insolvency and restructuring.
Commenting on his appointment, Edward Judge said: “Irwin Mitchell is ideally positioned in what continues to be a fast-changing legal sector and I am looking forward to joining the business as it enters another exciting phase of growth. I have been very impressed with the level of investment it has made in establishing a strong reputation within the commercial sector and I look forward to building on this further.”
Expert Opinion
Edward is extremely experienced and has a strong reputation for dealing with complex insolvency and restructuring issues. He is an innovator and extremely client focussed and therefore an ideal fit for Irwin Mitchell as we invest and move the business forward.
”This is the third partner hire into BLS already in 2014 and we are committed to bringing in more high quality lawyers as we build on the expertise we already have, grow our team and further enhance our range of services to our clients. We have now made 21 partner appointments into BLS since the beginning of 2012 and we expect further announcements during 2014.”

Last year Irwin Mitchell also welcomed Chris Rawstron, who heads up the BLS division in Birmingham, banking and finance partners Jon Bew and Andrew Watson, and Manchester-based real estate partners Roy Beckett, Patrick Duffy, Tony Weightman and Anita Weightman.
