Tour Operator Urged By Lawyers to Resolve Other Cases Related To Sharm El Sheikh Hotel
Illness lawyers who have secured a settlement from Thomas Cook for a family affected by illness problems at the St George’s Three Corners resort in Sharm El Sheikh in August and September 2011 have revealed their hopes that the tour operator will continue to work with them to help others affected by problems at the resort.
National law firm Irwin Mitchell’s specialist Travel Law team has secured a five-figure settlement for holidaymakers who endured symptoms of gastric illness and made complaints about hygiene at the three-star resort – now known as Xperience St George Homestay – during a two-week stay in August 2011.
The legal specialists, who have helped thousands of holidaymakers gain justice over illness problems at holiday resorts and on cruise ships, have now revealed their determination to ensure that other holidaymakers who fell ill around the same period at the resort also gain justice regarding their illnesses.

Through our work on this case, we have heard first-hand of the difficulties suffered by our clients following their initial illnesses.
"While we are pleased to have secured vital funds for 7 family members affected by problems at the start of August 2011, we are now calling on Thomas Cook to help us to resolve the remaining related to holidaymakers who visited the hotel and whose claims are still outstanding." Among the holidaymakers who Irwin Mitchell has secured a settlement for is Donna Hopper, 43, from Bishop Auckland, who had visited the hotel twice prior to her two-week stay in August 2011 with husband Dominic, 42, and children Nathan, 22, Sophie, 19, and Paige, 13.
Donna recalls: “Our holiday in 2011 was ruined by the problems, with most of the family falling ill days into it. Sophie came off the worst and needed an injection and a drip administered by the hotel doctor – it was an absolute nightmare and we had to arrange for her to come back to the UK early because she was too scared to stay at the hotel.
“The whole ordeal has had such an impact on her and it meant she developed a phobia of situations which could make her ill again. Her claim has not yet settled, however Sophie hopes that her claim will also settle shortly.
“We’re delighted with the settlement for the rest of the family considering the massive impact this has had on us and we now hope that we will be able to put these problems behind us once and for all once Sophie’s claim also settles.”
Among the holidaymakers with ongoing cases against Thomas Cook is Laura Tilley, from Birmingham, who visited the resort with her partner Sophie Borg from August 29th 2011. They both fell ill several days into the trip and the tour operator denies liability in relation to their case.
Laura, 26, who works in insurance, outlined: “We both suffered very serious gastric symptoms just days into the trip and had to visit a local pharmacy to get both pain relief and diarrhoea medication. I was still suffering illness upon my return home.
“The toll that the illness took on us cannot be overstated and we just want answers. The whole stay felt like a waste of money and I simply can’t imagine ever going back to this hotel ever again.”
