Leeds Law Firm Supports Little Hiccups And Wakefield Hospice
The Leeds committee of the Irwin Mitchell Charities Foundation (IMCF) have presented two local West Yorkshire charities with a donation of £21,500 after months of fundraising and support.
Little Hiccups was selected by staff in the Leeds office as the Charity of the Year for 2013 and has benefitted from 12 months of active fundraising and support.
The charity is a parent led support group, originally founded by two mums, both with disabled children. Little Hiccups organise Stay and Play sessions, family days out and have an outreach programme to offer parents and children a chance to meet other families, make friends and have fun.
The chosen charity for 2014 for Irwin Mitchell’s Leeds office is Wakefield Hospice, a local palliative care facility which supports those with cancer and life-limiting illnesses.
Staff from Irwin Mitchell’s Leeds office are proud to have raised a staggering £9,000 to help Little Hiccups towards their target. Over the last year they have been involved in a variety of fundraising events including a Summer BBQ, beauty night, Easter egg count and a Christmas raffle. There have also been bake sales and breakfast runs, as well as monthly donations through the Give as You Earn (GAYE) scheme and monthly dress down days.
As well as fundraising activities, the Leeds office has been able to offer support to Little Hiccups for their own events. When the charity needed gingerbread men for their goodie bags, a group of keen bakers donned their aprons and got busy baking, icing and decorating nearly 200 gingerbread men. A group from the Medical Law and Patient’s Rights (MLPR) team attended the ball which was held in Leeds. A fabulous time was had by all at the ball, with a 3 course meal, games, a raffle and dancing. One lucky attendee even took home an iPad mini donated by the firm for the raffle.
Expert Opinion
We are incredibly proud to have been able to support Little Hiccups in the wonderful work they do last year. Little Hiccups is a fantastic charity, and we see first-hand the support and help they give to families in the Leeds area.
“We look forward to continuing to work with them in any way we can to continue to help children who have special needs. We are particularly looking forward to the Little Hiccups the Barn Dance in July.
“This year we have chosen Wakefield Hospice as our charity of the year and we have already managed to raise a lot of money for them in just six months. We will continue our fundraising efforts and to support them in any way we can through the rest of year.”

Lindsay Medica, Founder of Little Hiccups said, "When we heard Little Hiccups had been chosen as Irwin Mitchell's Leeds office charity of the year, we were extremely proud. We've always been self funded and to have the support of everyone here was really heart-warming. However, I don’t think any of us expected you to raise quite so much money!
"We are totally blown away and very excited as this means we can do what we've always dreamed of, to provide Hiccups families with a short break holiday, with support on hand so that everyone can have some 'time out' and support."
