Leeds Law Firm Show Their Support To Sensory Leeds

A team of specialist medical lawyers at Irwin Mitchell’s Leeds office showed their support over the weekend to a local group which provides invaluable multi-sensory facilities for those with visual difficulties, hearing loss and brain injuries.

Sensory Leeds, which is based in Headingley, was set up as social enterprise in February last year and since then has seen around 100 people visit the centre to use the wide range of facilities on offer, including sensory lighting, water bed, a massage room, and a Soundpad allowing visitors to discover sounds, light and colours.

On Sunday (12 January) Irwin Mitchell provided sponsorship for 30 local children with disabilities to use the facilities for the day. The children and their families, including members of local organizations such as Hannah’s House, Little Hiccups and Snaps, could make the most of the sensory equipment on offer which helps with their development and rehabilitation.

Sensory Leeds is a non-profit organisation and the only public sensory centre in West Yorkshire. It also has a community hub with a cafe, internet and games, alongside the sensory rooms and massage room.

Sensory Leeds does some fantastic work with many young people and their families helping to provide them with a tailored package of care depending on their needs which really helps boost their rehabilitation.

“It also provides much-needed respite for people who often have complex needs, from those with physical or learning difficulties to those with acquired brain injuries and cerebral palsy.

“We work on behalf of numerous young people who are often physically or mentally disabled as a result of medical negligence so we know first-hand how important sensory rehabilitation is and how difficult it can be for many families to access due to logistics and cost issues.

“We want to support the organisation in any way we can and highlight to families that these facilities are available and that they provide invaluable access to sensory equipment which is essential for recovery, rehabilitation and development.”

Meadow Hudson, managing director at Sensory Leeds, said: “The workshops on Sunday were a great success and it was fantastic to see big groups of children coming to Sensory Leeds to experience our facilities. It was great to see parents on the day interacting with their children, but also sharing their experiences with other families.
 
“We’ve nearly been up and running for a year now and we now have three sensory rooms which provide invaluable experiences for those with brain injuries, hearing loss and learning disabilities.”

Next month, on 18 February Irwin Mitchell will be sponsoring a music therapy day for children and their families at the West Yorkshire Playhouse.
