Irwin Mitchell Helps Raise £3,500 For Castle Hill Hospital Cancer Trust Fund
Beverley Chamber Choir performed in a sold out concert which was put together by law firm Irwin Mitchell to help raise vital funds for the Castle Hill Hospital Cancer Trust Fund.
St Mary’s Church in Beverley was filled with over 350 people from the local community, staff from the hospital and supporters of the Trust from near and far during the event which took place on Friday 20th December.
Along with help from Irwin Mitchell who organised the Carols by Candlelight concert, the event raised over £3,500 for the Trust through ticket sales, a collection on the night and a raffle which will help fund vital treatment and care for patients at Castle Hill Hospital.
Beverley Chamber Choir formed in1998 and has 40 members, who perform up to three concerts each year. The choir is a registered charity which helps to educate the public in the art of choral music; giving local musicians an opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills.
Nicola Handley, a specialist industrial illness lawyer at Irwin Mitchell’s Leeds office, said: “We were really proud to be able to sponsor the Carols by Candlelight concert to raise funds for the Trust which provides a fantastic service to local cancer sufferers.
“The evening was a great way to start the Christmas period for the local community and an appropriate remembrance service for all those who have been affected by cancer, either directly or through a family member.
“Many of our clients receive care and treatment at Castle Hill Hospital following diagnosis of mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases so we are very pleased to be able to support the Trust in any way we can.”
Dr Rachael Barton, Consultant Oncologist, gave a speech during the concert highlighting the impact such events have to help these small charities.
She said: “The fund is a relatively small charity and do not normally have such high profile events. However the money that has been raised on the night will be essential for many individuals diagnosed with cancer.”
A carol writing competition was also run by the Beverley Chamber Choir in the run up to the event where local children used their creativity to write a new carol for the festive season. The winning carols, “The Spider in the Stable” by Fiona Tilsed and “Can man forget this story?” by Matthew Essam were performed at the concert and were enjoyed by everyone attending the event.
The Castle Hill Hospital Cancer Trust Fund was set up in 1984 and raises funds to buy new equipment for the hospital and funding research and education. The Trust Fund assists healthcare professionals by providing them with vital equipment, state-of-the-art research and education that they need to care for individuals who have regrettably been diagnosed with cancer.
