Latest School To Join Maltby Learning Trust

The Sheffield office of law firm Irwin Mitchell has advised on the conversion of Maltby Manor into becoming an Academy.

Maltby Manor is a 400 pupil primary school in Rotherham and as part of its conversion into an Academy on 1 December 2014, it has also joined the recently established Maltby Learning Trust (MLT).

Formed in February 2014, MLT is a Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) was up until the latest development made up of Maltby Academy and Maltby Redwood Primary Academy.

David Sutton, Executive Principal at Maltby Learning Trust, said:
 
"A number of years ago schools in the Maltby Learning Community recognised the opportunities resulting from working together and sharing expertise and resources. All schools committed to working in partnership to support both student transition and transfer and further develop 'Teaching and Learning' across the Maltby Learning Community.
 
"The success of this early collaboration convinced Governors in the Learning Community that a more formal partnership agreement would help further raise standards of achievement for all children and young people and support the individual school's drive to secure 'outstanding' judgements at their next inspections.  The Multi-Academy Trust, namely  'Maltby Learning Trust' was established and this week we welcomed Maltby Manor Primary School into the Trust."
 
National law firm Irwin Mitchell acted on Maltby Manor’s conversion. Earlier this year it advised on Maltby Academy’s initial conversion and its subsequent move to become a multi-academy trust.

Academies are publicly funded schools, which are not controlled by the Local Authority and therefore have additional independence in a number of areas. A Multi-Academy Trust is where two or more schools convert to academy status together.
