It has been reported that some of the victims at the Coral Sea Water World resort have been diagnosed with Shigella. In the UK most cases of Shigella are associated with foreign travel and often acquired by drinking water contaminated with human faeces or by eating food washed with contaminated water.
Reports suggest the resort has drafted in additional medical practitioners to treat the victims.Expert Opinion
It is extremely concerning that so many people staying at the Coral Sea Water World complex have reported falling ill during their holiday. Our work on behalf of victims of illness outbreaks both here in the UK and abroad means that we understand the impact that gastric illness can have on those affected - often leaving people with long-term health problems from which, in some cases, they may never recover.

βIt is because of this that we consider it crucial that investigations can be completed quickly to provide holidaymakers with information regarding the source and cause of the outbreak.β Amandeep Dhillon - Partner
