Leeds Lawyer Receives Honour Along With Vince Cable And UK Head of Microsoft
LEEDS-BASED corporate lawyer, Sandip Khroud, has been honoured along with Business Secretary, Vince Cable, for his support in helping to establish the National Asian Business Association (NABA).
NABA, which launched this week at an event at Microsoft’s offices in London, was attended by a host of high profile guests including Steve Pateman, Head of UK Banking at Santander, and the Right Honourable Baroness Prashar of Runneymede CBE.
The new association aims to bring together the 11 local Asian business associations across the country, including the one in Yorkshire, in order to provide a unified voice of British Asian businesses in the UK.
Sandip Khroud is an Associate in Irwin Mitchell’s corporate team in Leeds. He sits on the Yorkshire Asian Business Association board and he has been advising NABA since 2011. Most recently he provided advice to NABA on its structure and governance policies ahead of the launch.
In recognition of his efforts, Sandip was one of seven guests to be honoured for his hard work in helping establish NABA. At a special ceremony during the event, he was awarded with a shawl along with Vince Cable, Steve Pateman, Baroness Prashar and UK Head of Microsoft, Michel Van der Bel.
Sandip said: “I started to get involved with NABA when it was just an idea, so it is very satisfying to see it through to launch.”
“Irwin Mitchell is delighted to support and be involved with NABA, particularly as it will provide a much needed platform for the Asian business community. The fact that there are around 50,000 British Asian businesses in the UK clearly illustrates their importance to the economy and why it is so crucial that they get greater support and profile to ensure they can continue to drive future growth.”
Speaking at the launch event in Westminster on 4 March 2013, Business Secretary Vince Cable said Mr Cable said:
“I welcome the founding of a new organisation to promote business and provide it with a strong voice. British Asian companies have long played a dynamic role in the business community. Their growth is essential to job creation and national economic recovery, as is the emergence of a new generation of Asian entrepreneurs.
“By showcasing the best that Asian business has to offer, I hope – like them – that more Asian men and women will come to exert influence in the upper echelons of business and Government.”
