Expert Lawyers To Discuss Disability Law At Event In Cumbria
Expert lawyers from Irwin Mitchell will be supporting a special event which aims to provide information and support to parents or carers who look after children and adults with disabilities.
Mathieu Culverhouse and Stephen Williams, from the firm’s Manchester and Newcastle offices, will be attending the Learning To Change Disability Information Day at the Rheged Centre in Penrith on Friday, 8 March 2013 to host a seminar about disability law.
The event is the largest free exhibition in Cumbria, north west and north east and will help raise awareness about the specialist care and services available for people of all ages with disabilities.
More than 100 exhibitors will offer advice about mobility, funding, education, sports, sensory equipment and health issues at the event. There will also be seminars about improving independent living, managing sleep and how to employ a carer while visitors can relax in a special chill-out area where alternative therapies will be on offer.
Representatives from national charity Contact a Family, Cumbria County Council and the Cumbria Parent Partnership Service will also be available.
Stephen Williams said: “We represent the families of many children and young people who are affected by disabilities and we also have close links to colleagues at charity Contact a Family who we know are a great source of information and help to our clients, so this is a fantastic event which we are proud to support.
“We are really looking forward to attending the exhibition so that we can pass on our knowledge of disability law to help improve the lives disabled children and adults, or to professionals who want to learn more and the challenges families face.”
Organiser Kerryanne Hunter, from Learning to Change, said the event aims to empower and inform families dealing with disability.
She said: “This is key event for anyone from the north east, north west, from the Scottish borders and Cumbria who care for someone with a disability. We hope the information and advice we offer will empower parents and carers and show there are a wealth of organisations and charities who can help support them.
“Families often tell us they feel alone and unsupported so we want to share the valuable contacts and links we have to law firms like Irwin Mitchell, the council and other charities and organisation so people can get access to the best possible care and advice they needs to look after their loves ones.”
The free event will run from 10am to 2.30pm. To book a place at one of the seminars or workshops call Kerryanne Hunter on 07799 298307 or email kerryanne.l2c.cumbria@gmail.com.
