Sexual Abuse Investigation By Metropolitan Police Continues
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has today (29/08/2013) charged TV presenter Rolf Harris with nine counts of indecent assault under the Sexual Offences Act 1956 and four counts of making indecent images of a child under the Protection of Children Act 1978.
The actions are part of the Metropolitan Police Service’s Operation Yewtree which is the investigation into alleged sexual abuse, primarily of children, by Jimmy Savile and others.
The CPS says the alleged indecent assaults by Rolf Harris date from 1980 to 1986 and relate to two complainants aged 14 and 15 at the time of the alleged offending.
Rolf Harris will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 23 September 2013.
The specialist abuse team at Irwin Mitchell is currently representing several people who have made allegations of abuse by Jimmy Savile and others.
Tracey Storey, a specialist lawyer at Irwin Mitchell who has represented many abuse victims, said: “The recent high profile nature of the abuse investigated by Operation Yewtree has encouraged many victims to speak out about their suffering. Many victims have said they have felt unable to come forward previously because of a fear they would not be taken seriously or be disbelieved.
“It is important that victims of sexual abuse receive the specialist help and treatment necessary to help them come to terms with what happened and be able to move forward with their lives.”
