Woman Killed And Others Injured In Incident On April 26th
West Yorkshire Police are continuing their investigations into a road traffic collision at junction 32 of the M62 on Friday (April 26th), which led to the death of an 18-year-old woman and left eight others in a serious condition.
It has been confirmed that Bethany Jones from Pontefract died at the scene of the crash involving a minibus and a lorry, while a total of 21 passengers were admitted to hospitals across Yorkshire following the incident.
Seven of those injured are believed to be in a serious but stable condition, while one other woman remains in intensive care. It is thought that all of the passengers were from the South Elmsall area and travelling to Liverpool for a hen night.
The driver of the goods vehicle was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been bailed pending further enquiries.
Jane Wright, a Partner and serious injury lawyer based at Irwin Mitchell’s Leeds office, said it was vital that officers continue with their efforts to fully understand what caused the tragedy.
She outlined: “While very little remains known about this crash, it is clear that this awful incident has affected a great number of people.
“Through our work representing victims and families whose lives have been affected by similar collisions, we know that any information that police officers can gather will ensure a full picture can be developed in relation to the circumstances of the collision and how the incident came to occur.
“Such information will be vital in ensuring that lessons can be learned from this tragedy, which in turn could go towards improving road safety in general. Our thoughts are with both the victims and their families at this extremely difficult time.”
