Victim ‘Trampled’ While Out Walking Dog

The death of a woman thought to have been trampled by cows in Wiltshire has raised safety concerns in relation to the issue, according to legal experts at Irwin Mitchell.

Sandra Wiltshire from Chippenham was found on Thursday morning (October 11th) by paramedics in a field in the town’s Monkton Park area, with Wiltshire Police confirming her injuries were consistent with being trampled by one or more cows.

The location where the 68-year-old victim was found is not believed to be a right of way.

David Urpeth, a specialist in such cases at the national law firm, said: “We have seen a number of instances when people have been hurt as a result of animals being kept in areas where there is a public right of way.

“This does not appear to be the case here, with this tragedy serving as a reminder of the importance of keeping to designated routes.

“However, it does highlight the need for farmers to take steps to use signage to ensure ramblers and dog walkers are aware of any potential risks which could emerge.

“We hope that investigations into this incident can shed more light on what happened, with a view to ensuring that walkers and farmers can both learn lessons which will prevent this tragedy from being repeated.”
