Appeal For Witnesses Following Incident
Police have appealed for witnesses following a road accident in which a six-year-old girl was struck by a silver Vauxhall Corsa while walking to school in Greenock.
The youngster has treated in hospital for a head injury following the incident on Tuesday morning (November 20th), which happened on the A78 Inverkip Road at Barrs Cottage.
Police have called on the driver of the four-door car, who did not stop after the incident, to come forward to help with their enquiries. They believe they may not be aware that they had hit the youngster.
Elaine Russell, a Partner and road traffic collision specialist at Irwin Mitchell, said this kind of incident demonstrated the need for road users to take care during the winter months.
She explained: “We’ve seen a number of cases in the past when people have suffered serious injury as a result of road traffic collisions, including those in which the circumstances and weather conditions have caused difficulty.
“It is vital that road users and pedestrians remain vigilant and ensure they always take care, particularly when the mornings and evenings are much darker than in the summer.
“This kind of incident shows the terrible consequences which can emerge and it is vital that efforts can be made to ensure that high safety standards are maintained.”
