Fun Run Kick Starts Action For Brain Injury Week Activities
A team of lawyers from Irwin Mitchell’s Birmingham office put their best put forward over the weekend to complete a 10 mile fun run and raised nearly £1000 for Headway West Midlands Brain Injury Awareness Week.
Saturday (12 May) saw the second annual run organised by the national leading law firm and it marked the start of Headway’s Brain Injury Awareness Week (14 – 21st May).
A team of lawyers completed the 10 mile fun run/walk which started from Irwin Mitchell's city centre office and finished at Headway West Midlands headquarters in Rubery.
Fitness4less got everyone into the spirit with a warm up routine and after the 63 fun runners completed the course they were treated to a garden party with face painting, games and a performance from One Voice the Headway West Midlands choir.
Hilary Wetherell, a serious injury expert and Partner at Irwin Mitchell, said: "We continue to work closely with Headway West Midlands and our aim is to raise awareness about brain injuries and the devastating effect they have on the sufferer and their carers.
"Headway provides a vital service to those who have suffered a brain injury and their families, not only for the support they receive but for the opportunity to meet others living with the same condition, giving them the opportunity to talk about their feelings with someone who understands.
"Local authority cuts have been threatening Headway's ability to provide support, so it has never been more important to raise awareness about the excellent role they play in supporting those affected by brain injury.
"The day was superb and it was excellent to see so many people taking part."
Justin Powell, Community Services Manager for Headway West Midlands said: “A massive thank you to all those at Irwin Mitchell who helped to organise this event and took part. It was a great day that raised much needed funds that will be put to good use across the charity.”
