Several Wards Hit By Illness Problems

Illness experts at Irwin Mitchell have revealed their concerns over reported norovirus outbreaks affecting the Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield and the Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.

Local reports have revealed that two wards at Good Hope Hospital have been closed due to the outbreak, with four patients showing symptoms including sickness and diarrhoea.

In addition, the Beaumont Hospital has reportedly seen more than 40 patients affected by a similar outbreak, with a number of wards on the site being affected.

Norovirus infection causes acute gastroenteritis, with the most common symptoms are diarrhoea, vomiting, and stomach pain. Anyone can get norovirus and in some cases it can leave sufferers with long-term health problems.

Elizabeth Tetzner, a lawyer at Irwin Mitchell who specialises in cases of illness abroad and in the UK, said:  “Through our work we have seen the devastating impact that norovirus can have on so many people.

“This is a highly contagious disease and we hope that lessons can be learnt which will help to reduce the potential risk of further outbreaks in the future.”
