Experts Reiterate Calls For People To Get Quality Treatment

Illness lawyers at Irwin Mitchell who are now representing several victims of the Legionnaires’ outbreak in Edinburgh have re-emphasised the need for people affected to get the best possible support in their recovery.

The experts at the firm’s Glasgow office have now been instructed by 12 people who have suffered serious health problems as a result of the illness.

New figures from the Scottish government have revealed that the total of confirmed cases now stands at 44, while another 47 people are also suspected of suffering from the disease. It is believed that people of all ages have been affected.

Investigations are continuing across the capital in an effort to identify the possible source of the outbreak.

Elaine Russell, a Partner at Irwin Mitchell’s Glasgow office who specialises in illness claims, said: “We have received instructions from several people affected by the outbreak of legionnaire’s disease. The most important thing now is to ensure they get the treatment they need to aid their recovery and that the families of victims are given the support they need in this difficult time.

“It is now confirmed that two people have died from this outbreak which has affected more than 40 people and their families.

“The authorities need to ensure they carry out swift investigations so that they can report back on the source of the illness as soon as possible and provide the public with an explanation of what happened.

“Moving forward we will be seeking reassurances that such outbreaks can be avoided in future. Early investigations have already outlined some concerns about specific sites so it is vital that lessons are learned from this to ensure that public safety is improved.”
