Appeal For Witnesses Following Incident Last Week
Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses after a cyclist died following a road traffic collision in Edinburgh last week.
The 43-year-old man passed away in the city’s Royal Infirmary after hitting a parked car during rush-hour traffic on Lanark Road on Thursday morning (January 5th).
It is believed he may have been struck by an overtaking lorry which did not stop at the scene and was traced by officers following the incident. A man was detained and questioned in relation to the crash.
The Scotsman reports that Lothian and Borders Police added the incident was not being treated as a hit-and-run.

Commenting on the incident, Elaine Russell, a Partner at the leading law firm’s Glasgow office, said: “It is incredibly worrying to hear about this incident and it is vital that a full investigation highlights just how it happened, with a view to preventing similar incidents in the future.
“Reports have revealed there are particular concerns related to the build-up of traffic on the route and we hope this issue can be fully assessed, particularly in line with whether measures can be introduced to improve levels of safety.
“Ultimately, we hope that lessons can be learned from this terrible incident which will stop other road users from being seriously hurt in the future.”
