Irwin Mitchell Presents Donation To Leeds Children's Charity
The Leeds office of national law firm Irwin Mitchell presented a donation of over £8,400 to the Leeds Children’s Charity, the firm’s 2011 Charity of the Year, during their annual New Year Party, hosted this month.
The money raised will go towards the century-old Leeds Children’s Charity in their work to help children who suffer from poverty, neglect, abuse, learning difficulties, illness, or are themselves young carers, to meet friends and have a week’s holiday.
Every year the charity takes over 400 children between the ages of seven and 11 to its holiday centre in Silverdale, an area of outstanding natural beauty on the border of Lancashire and Cumbria.
Irwin Mitchell has worked closely with the trustees at the Charity to provide clothes, shoes, books, toiletries, washing powder and even Easter eggs to be used and consumed by the many hundreds of disadvantaged children they serve.
Jane Wright, a Partner in the Personal Injury team at Irwin Mitchell, said: “Leeds Children’s Charity is a very worthy cause and we are delighted to have supported them during 2011. We are very grateful for the generosity our supporters have shown towards the charity, and to the guests who have attended our various fundraising events over the year.”
Verlie McCann, Chairwoman at the Leeds Children’s Charity, said: “The money Irwin Mitchell has raised will make a huge difference to a significant number of disadvantaged children in the area.
“The staff at Irwin Mitchell have willingly and enthusiastically participated in the many fundraising events that took place throughout the year – and we have enjoyed their friendship and fun while working together for a common cause.”
Over 100 guests from across the Yorkshire business community joined 20 of the firm’s staff at The Create in Leeds, where they were treated to canapes, champagne, a hot buffet - and magician entertainment.
The party also gave the firm an opportunity to begin fundraising for their 2012 chosen Charity of the Year Martin House - a hospice for children and young people with life-limiting illnesses based in Boston Spa, Wetherby.
Martin House was founded in 1987 and provides family-led care for children with life-threatening and life-limiting illnesses. The charity provides a place for children and young people and their families to find rest, support and practical help.
John Haigh, Corporate Fundraiser at Martin House, said: “We’re delighted that Irwin Mitchell has chosen us as their Charity of the Year and are excited to work with them in what is our 25th and their 100th year. The firm has made a significant contribution to Leeds Children’s Charity and we look forward to working with colleagues at Irwin Mitchell with the events planned in support of Martin House throughout 2012.”
