Police Continuing Review Into Insulin Concerns
Medical lawyers at Irwin Mitchell have revealed their concerns after the death of a seventh patient at Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport was linked to saline believed to be contaminated with insulin.
Police have revealed they think Beryl Hope, who passed away in August 2011, may have been given contaminated solution. Officers are currently undergoing a review of cases between June and July last year, and have previously linked six other deaths to the same concerns.
A nurse was arrested in relation to several of the cases earlier this year, but has since been granted bail until September 10th.
Jennifer Cawthorne, a Partner and medical law specialist at Irwin Mitchell, said: “It is a massive concern that yet another death has been linked to apparent problems related to contaminated saline solution at Stepping Hill.
“This means that yet another family will be seeking answers over what has happened, as well as reassurances that any issues which are identified are simply not repeated.
“Patient safety should always be a fundamental priority and we hope that the police investigation will be able to eventually provide clear answers on what happened in these cases and how lessons are to be learned in the future.”
