Partner To Join Former Cricketer On Fundraising Challenge
Sheffield businesses are assisting on a week-long charity mission as they join former England Cricketer Michael Vaughan on his Great Wall of China trek to raise funds for the Children’s Hospital Charity.
Paul Firth, a Partner at law firm Irwin Mitchell and Chairman of the Charity, will be trekking on the Great Wall of China alongside Michael Vaughan, who is a Patron of the charity.
The principle aim of the trek is to raise £250,000 for a “state of the art” surgical navigation system, a scanner which due to its extreme accuracy greatly enhances surgical procedures during brain, spinal cord and ear/nose and throat operations.
The Trek follows the Great Wall of China through woodland and terraced farmland, and along hills and mountains in remote areas of Beijing. The group will be on the road for seven days from the 17 to 23 September.
Firth said: “The Sheffield Children’s Hospital is a wonderful cause and I have had the privilege of being the Chairman of the Charity for the last 15 years. All of the costs of the trip are coming out of my own pocket so all donations including gift aid will go to pay for this urgently required equipment. The use of which makes operations much safer and recovery times much quicker for the poorly children.
“We urge everyone to get behind us and give generously to help the amazing work undertaken at one of the world’s leading paediatric hospitals which treats children from all over the UK and overseas.”
