Work Accident Expert Calls For Answers About Blaze
Emergency services have begun an investigation into what caused a major fire at a waste management site in Thirsk, North Yorkshire.
Three buildings on the Todd Waste Management site are thought to have been involved in the blaze, which was tackled by more than 60 firefighters after it was reported to the authorities yesterday evening (May 3rd).
Companies close by were evacuated as a precaution while roads were also closed. No injuries in relation to the incident have been reported but people living nearby have been urged to keep windows and doors closed.
Work accident experts at Irwin Mitchell have represented clients in relation to a number of major industrial fires, including 75 workers and residents affected by a LPG fire at the Conoco-Phillips Killingholme plant in 2001.
David Urpeth, head of workplace injuries at the law firm, said it was vital answers are needed as to the cause of the incident.
“Incidents of this kind can cause massive disruption and impact on the health and safety of workers and residents alike,” he outlined.
“For the sake of all of those involved, it is vital that every effort is made to understand how such fires happen and whether they can be avoided in the future.”
David added: “Authorities need to quickly determine what happened in the lead-up to this incident in Thirsk, as well as whether the blaze could be linked to any safety failings. The investigation should hopefully highlight important lessons that can be learnt and used to prevent further workplace fires in the future.”
