String Of Crashes Raises Concerns
A road safety specialist in Scotland has called for drivers to take care on the roads as a growing number of people prepare to enjoy summer breaks.
Elaine Russell, a Partner at Irwin Mitchell’s Glasgow office, made the call after noting the number of road traffic collisions on the country’s roads in the recent months.
One of the latest, at the weekend, saw one man killed and several others injured when two cars collided on the A701 close to Moffat.
Robert McCormick, a 51-year-old hotel porter, died in the incident and the road was also closed for a number of hours for a full investigation. Police have also appealed for witnesses.
Commenting on the incident, Elaine Russell of Irwin Mitchell said: “This is sadly only the latest in a long line of crashes seen on Scottish roads recently, which is a cause for massive concern.
“We are particularly worried that, as the summer holidays approach, the amount of traffic on the roads may rise – meaning there is the potential danger of even more serious and fatal collisions.
“It is vital that authorities take steps to ensure road safety measures in their areas are functioning to the best possible standard, while we would also urge motorists to take care when out and about.
“Car crashes can have a devastating, life-changing impact on so many people, so we hope every effort is made to ensure road users are as protected from harm as possible.”
