Expert Reveals Concerns Following Incident
A woman from the Holmcroft area of Stafford is being treated in hospital following a dog attack at a private address last night.
The 47-year-old is believed to have suffered serious arm and head injuries in the incident, which took place at around 5pm yesterday (January 31st).
A second woman, thought to be the owner of the Staffordshire bull terrier involved, is helping police with inquiries. The dog itself has been seized by police and is being kept in kennels.
Katrina Elsey of Irwin Mitchell specialises in advising those who have been seriously injured in such animal attacks.
Discussing this case, she said: “This incident is just the latest in a spate of attacks to gain widespread media coverage over the past month.
“Like the others, this raises serious concerns over the safety of keeping certain dogs in homes, as well as brings the current regulations on ownership of particular breeds into the spotlight.
“While the vast majority of dogs are well behaved, the past few months has seen a concerning rise in these terrible, occasionally fatal, attacks.
“We think the reintroduction of dog licences and compulsory insurance would play a key role in ensuring victims hurt in such a manner can get the justice they deserve.”
