Authorities Investigating Death In Powys
Health and safety authorities are investigating after a boy in Powys was killed when a goalpost fell on him during a football match.
Police have revealed that 12-year-old Casey Breese was playing on a recreation ground at Caersws, home to the village’s local team, on Friday (July 29th) when the incident happened.
The youngster was pronounced dead shortly after he arrived at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital via air ambulance. It has been confirmed that the Health and Safety Executive is talking to officers and the local authority regarding the death.
Experts at Irwin Mitchell represent people who have been seriously injured in incidents in public places, as well as the families of those killed in such cases.
Katrina Elsey, an expert in public liability claims at the national law firm, said: “This is undoubtedly a shocking case, one which will concern all parents whose children are playing outdoors this summer.
“Unfortunately, our work has shown that this case is not unique and we would urge the authorities in and around Powys to examine not only what happened but how such problems can be avoided in the future.
“Of particular interest will be how the goalposts are maintained and whether improvements could be made to ensure the safety of those playing on the pitch.
“The family of the victim are bound to be demanding answers and it is fundamental that every effort is made to improve safety standards, which in turn should help to prevent such an incident from happening again.”
