Authorities must work quickly to discover the root cause of an illness outbreak affecting a Scottish hotel, an expert has urged.
Reports have revealed that more than 20 guests and several members of staff at Beardmore Hotel have shown symptoms of gastric illness such as diarrhoea and vomiting, with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Public Health Protection Unit now examining the issue.
It is thought some of those who have fallen ill are people who visited the hotel for a conference over the course of last week.
Irwin Mitchell represents a number of people who have suffered from serious illnesses during and following stays at hotels both across the UK and abroad.
Elaine Russell, a Partner and illness and injury specialist at the law firm’s Glasgow office, said it was vital that everything possible is done to prevent anyone else from falling ill.
She explained: “Our work first-hand with those who have been left with long-term health problems as a result of serious gastric illnesses has shown just how devastating instances like this can be.
“Authorities need to set about pinpointing the exact issue which led to this outbreak, as well as identifying any measures which can be put in place to prevent such problems from happening ever again.
“Ultimately, it is vital that lessons can be learnt which will ensure that both hotel workers and guests are safe from any harm.”
