Youngster Dies Following Fall

Police and the Health and Safety Executive are continuing their joint investigation into the death of an 11-year-old boy who fell from a zip wire attraction at a Welsh theme park.

The youngster from Blackpool was seriously injured in the incident on Sunday (April 24th), which involved the SwampFlyer ride at Greenwood Forest Park Centre at Y Felinheli in Gwynedd. He later died in hospital.

Staff at the park are now working with authorities to consider the events leading up to the boy’s fall, with the owners stating that all of the equipment on the attraction – which is believed to be the longest zip wire ride in Wales – was checked in the morning.

Irwin Mitchell has represented a number of people who have been injured in incidents at theme parks in the past, with experts from its Glasgow office currently advising the family of a five-year-old girl hurt on a rollercoaster at M&D’s Theme Park in Motherwell.

Commenting on the Greenwood Forest Park Centre incident, Stephen Nye, a Partner and serious injury specialist at Irwin Mitchell’s Birmingham office, said: “News of this terrible incident is incredibly concerning and raises questions which the current investigation by authorities and the park will have to tackle.

“The loved ones of the youngster will undoubtedly be seeking answers as to how this came to occur, as well as seeking reassurances that no one else suffers in the same manner.

“I hope that the examination of the facts leading up to this tragedy will create a clearer picture of what happened and also provide information that all theme and adventure parks can utilise to ensure safety of visitors is their top priority.”
