Expert Comments After Accident
A leading personal injury lawyer has called for authorities in Scotland to fully assess the potential problems on bus routes across the country.
Elaine Russell, Partner at Irwin Mitchell’s Glasgow office, made the call while commenting on a recent incident which saw a bus carrying more than 30 school pupils overturn on the A92 Gavrock Road in Aberdeenshire on Sunday.
While 13 of the youngsters were slightly hurt by the incident, another six were taken to hospital with minor injuries. According to reports, parents have had some complaints over the use of double-decker buses on the route.
Discussing the case, Elaine Russell said: “It is widely recognised that Scotland has a high risk of road traffic accident due to weather conditions and the types of road in Scotland.
“Therefore it is imperative that correct risk assessments are carried out on bus routes and appropriate action is taken. Local authorities and private bus companies must take note of this accident to ensure that incidents such as this are avoided if possible.
“Given the time of year and change in the weather in Scotland I would urge councils and companies to adopt safe practices, learn lessons from what has happened here and to ensure that our children are kept safe.”
