HSE Report Highlights Rise In Injuries
New figures from the Health and Safety Executive on the number of people killed on British farms are a major cause for concern which must be immediately addressed, according to a top workplace injury lawyer from Irwin Mitchell.
Accident at work claims expert David Urpeth commented after the research highlighted that the number of reported major injuries rose to 640 between April 2009 and March 2010, which marked an increase from 599 in the previous 12 months.
The study also revealed that 38 people died as result of working on farms, with the rate of fatal injuries making agriculture Britain’s most dangerous industry.
Injuries In The Farming Industry
Discussing the release of the report, David Urpeth said: “It is undoubtedly concerning that the number of injuries and fatalities in the farming industry is so high.
“All workers, whether they are employed on construction sites, in factories or on farms, should be able to work safe in the knowledge that they will return home at night unharmed.
“I urge the farming community to get involved in making the sector a safer place to work, providing the correct equipment and training to ensure that workers are always protected from risks.”
