Belgian Mastiff Killed By Police Following Incident
A lawyer at Irwin Mitchell has called on authorities to carry out a thorough investigation into the events leading up to a dog attack in which a woman was fatally injured.
The victim from Wallington, London suffered multiple injuries when she was savaged by a Belgian mastiff, which was killed by police when they arrived on the scene at Demesne Road just before 9pm yesterday (December 23rd).
No one else was injured in the incident, but police have now begun an investigation into the attack.
Keith Barrett, an experienced personal injury lawyer at Irwin Mitchell’s London office, said: “Police need to work quickly and thoroughly to provide answers in relation to this incident to the victim’s loved ones.
“However, what is also concerning is that this incident is the latest in a long line of attacks on humans seen across the past 12 months, which suggests that the measures in place to protect people are not sufficient.
“We deal with many cases related to dog bites annually and often see the physical and emotional trauma that such incidents can have on victims.”
“One issue which will undoubtedly raise interest in the aftermath of this case is whether the Belgian mastiff should be classified as dangerous under the relevant legislation.”
