Twenty-One People Injured In Train Crash
More than 20 people have been injured after a train hit a lorry on a level crossing in Suffolk. The incident took place on the August 17th at approximately 5.30pm. The passenger train collided with a sewage tanker in Little Cornard, in Sudbury.
The train driver is thought to be one of two people with serious injuries. The driver of a tanker appeared in court on the August 20th charged with endangering safety on the railway. Arvydas Bartasius, of Cambridgeshire, was remanded on conditional bail until October 1st.
According to the East of England Ambulance Service, two people who had been trapped on the train suffered life-threatening injuries. The train driver suffered suspected fractured vertebrae and was being treated at Colchester General Hospital.
It appears that the level crossing was on private land and had a locked gate on it. To cross the level crossing, it was necessary to call the signaller but Network Rail had not received any calls prior to the crash.
