Suki Chhokar - Award Winning Solicitor
Suki Chhokar, a Partner with the International Travel Litigation Group at Irwin Mitchell Solicitors in Birmingham, has once again been short listed as a finalist in the prestigious Lloyds TSB Jewel Awards.
Jewel celebrates the wealth of experience, expertise and success within the Asian community. Thirty-six year old Mr Chhokar, who is from Wolverhampton, was last shortlisted for the category of Professional Excellence back in 2005.
Suki Chhokar said: "I am truly honoured to be considered again for this prestigious accolade. The Jewel awards are a great way of celebrating the success of the hardworking Asian community, and I think it is important to support events like this, especially given the current economic climate."
Suki, who was promoted to Partner at Irwin Mitchell at the age of 30, has been involved in a number of landmark legal cases involving some of the largest group actions in the UK.
He has developed strong links and connections with the Asian community across the West Midlands, including the Information Guidance and Advice Centre (formerly the Sikh Youth Community Centre), the Birmingham Central Mosque and the Smethwick Sikh Temple, successfully arranging Pro-bono work.
He established the Asian Business Breakfast Connection – the first event of its type targeted at Asian Businesses in the West Midlands and has teamed up with Afsar Multicultural Services Ltd, an organisation that provides services to clients from Black, Asian, Chinese and other minority communities, to provide exclusive on-line sponsorship.
Suki has worked closely with the Sandwell Asian Family Support Service (SAFSS), a charity supporting Asian children with disabilities, as a result of which they were able to host their first ever Christmas party for carers and children. He has also been actively working with the Bordesley Green Centre to arrange work experience placement and career guidance for students. He has also built strong links with the Birmingham Professional 'DiverCity,' attending events and regularly hosts workshops and presentations.
The Lloyds TSB Central Asian Jewel Awards, now in their 7th year, will be held on the 11th July 2009 in Birmingham.
