Machine controller in tragic accident at work
An inquest is to be held into the death of a father-of-one who was crushed by machinery as he oversaw railway maintenance work.
Mark Murray, 41, from Stockport, was employed as a machine controller for Stirling Solutions Limited and was working at a site near Rugby, Warwickshire, when the incident happened on 12th July 2008.
Mr Murray was walking in front of the road railer machine – a large crane which lifts and moves railway lines – driven by a colleague employed by a second company when the machine crushed him.
The one-day jury inquest, which will take place on Tuesday 9th June at Leamington Spa Town Hall, will investigate how Mr Murray died at the scene after his arm was severed and he sustained massive internal injuries.
Ian Bailey, a partner with Irwin Mitchell, who is representing Mr Murray’s family in a civil claim, said: "Mark was a well liked and very popular man who loved football and was a devoted Manchester City fan all his life. His sudden death has greatly affected not only his immediate family and friends but the local community too.
"We very much hope that the inquest will shed light on the precise circumstances which led to his death."
Mr Murray leaves behind his partner Nicky Barnes and one-year-old son Billy.
