Illness In The Caribbean
Eight British holidaymakers have won a total of more than £120,000 in damages after they were left with long term health problems following a holiday in the Caribbean.
The group were all staying at the Super Club Breezes Hotel in the Dominican Republic when they were struck down by severe gastric illness.
Members of the group are still suffering from health problems such as irritable bowel syndrome three years after returning to the UK.
Travel law experts at Irwin Mitchell were representing the group and secured an out of court settlement to compensate them for their illnesses.
Terry Small from Hampshire was one of those affected. After just a few days at the hotel he began to suffer diarrhoea, vomiting, abdominal cramps and fever. He continues to suffer with illness even now.
He revealed his frustration that legal action was needed, “I’m glad that First Choice has finally compensated us fairly for this holiday, but it shouldn’t have to result in legal proceedings, which has caused me even further distress.”
Amandeep Dhillon of Irwin Mitchell helped to secure holiday illness compensation for the group. He said: “I am happy that we have reached a settlement in respect of our clients. However, all of this could have been avoided in the first instance if strict health and hygiene standards had been followed at the hotel.”
