Lawyer Backs Recognition For Major Phil Packer
Phil Packer has been awarded a prestigious honour at this year's BBC Sports Personality of the Year ceremony.
His latest Hellen Rollason Award follows The Pride of Britain Award for Fundraiser of The Year recognising his efforts to aid military charity Help For Heroes.
Mr Packer, who suffered a serious spinal injury whilst serving in Iraq, raised £1 million in 12 months for the charity.
Later he raised more money by completing the London Marathon on crutches over two weeks, climbing El Capitan - the highest mountain in the US - and rowing across the English Channel.
He said his inspiration comes from all those he has met along his journey from the disabled community, to medical practitioners as well as family and friends.
The Sussex-born man will be medically discharged from the Armed Forces next year and plans to dedicate his life to supporting Young People with Disabilities.
He will also work for the disabled through the launch of The British Inspiration Trust supported by law firm Irwin Mitchell.
