An investigation has been launched into a serious accident in which a rail worker died near a railway bridge in North Lincolnshire.
David Salkeld, of Rotherham, South Yorkshire, was understood to have been resurfacing a road under a railway bridge when he was crushed by a runaway excavator.
According to reports, Mr Salkeld was working for contractor AMCO at the site on Mill Lane, Brigg, when the accident happened. He was taken by air ambulance to Scunthorpe General Hospital but later died of chest and abdominal injuries.
Police are now working with the HSE to determine whether there were any suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.
"At this time police are working with the Health and Safety Executive in order to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death and whether there are any suspicious circumstances," a Humberside Police spokeswoman said.
AMCO (Amalgamated Construction) is a multi-disciplinary construction and engineering contractor which operates throughout the UK in rail, mining and engineering.
