Industrial Accident at Steelworks

A 29-year-old father-of-two has died after an industrial accident at a steelworks in Teesside.

Maintenance worker Kristian Norris suffered fatal injuries as he carried out work at the Corus Lackenby site.

Cleveland Police and the Health and Safety Executive are investigating the incident.

A spokeswoman for Corus said: "Corus can confirm that there has been fatality on the Teesside site in the early hours of Saturday April 12.

"Kristian Norris, aged 29, was employed by Vesuvius as a contractor working on the Corus site.

"He was carrying out maintenance work when the accident happened, which resulted in fatal injuries.

"Kristian leaves his partner and two children.

"This is a tragic loss of life and we are doing everything we can to find out what happened, our thoughts are with Kristian's family and we will be offering our support during this extremely difficult time."

A spokeswoman for the HSE said: "The police will be looking for whether there is anything like manslaughter and we will be looking to see if there have been any breaches of health and safety.

"But the police are leading the investigation at the moment."
