Man Dies After Maintenance Rig Collapse
An investigation has been launched into how a man died after a floating maintenance rig collapsed at a gas terminal.
Police confirmed that the man, who is believed to be a 44-year-old from the Netherlands, lost his life in the accident in West Wales.
Seven men were rescued when the floating jack-up barge collapsed near Milford Haven at a liquefied natural gas terminal.
Rescuers had launched a search for the missing rig worker, and Dyfed Powys Police have now confirmed that a remote-controlled vessel has located his body, adding that efforts to recover it are continuing.
A statement issued by Dyfed-Powys Police said: "An investigation has been launched by Dyfed-Powys Police and the Health and Safety Executive. The HM Coroner has been informed."
South Hook LNG, which operates the terminal, said: "It is with deep regret that we can confirm an individual, employed by a sub contractor, lost his life following an incident on a jack-up barge. Our thoughts and sympathies are with his family."
