Great North Run 2006
Eight brave staff from Sheffield based solicitors Irwin Mitchell shook of their legal minds for a day in order to tackle the Great North run to support the charities of their choice last month.
On September 30th the legal eagles swapped case files for running shoes and took part in the 13.1 mile race between Newcastle and South Shields.
The unusually warm day put extra pressure on the group who were grateful for the water stations and cool showers set up along the way.
Running to raise money for Childline, Secretary Sarah Crowther from Stocksbridge and Associate Solicitor Sally Rissbrook from Halfway, decided to take part after watching the Great North Run 2006. Sally said: “We decided to support Childline as it is a fantastic charity, helping children throughout the UK get the help and support they so desperately need. It is also a charity that Irwin Mitchell has supported for some time.”
Sarah added: “As soon as I had watched last years race I knew it was something I wanted to take part in.”
“We both set about training and although it was hard work we knew it would be worth it in the end.”
Other charities supported by the participants included Cancer Backup, Headway, Percy Hedley and The British Heart Foundation.
Sally continued: “It was a great day, the atmosphere was fantastic and it was good to see so many charities being supported. It gave us all a real sense of achievement when we crossed the finish line on the sea front at South Shields.
“The best thing about it was that we were able to raise £650 for Childline through sponsorship from friends, family and colleagues. Then an additional payment was made of £500 from the staff at Irwin Mitchell who all paid a pound on the dress down day to help top up the donation which included a further payment made from the Irwin Mitchell Charities Foundation so the support has been fantastic.”
