Avenir Snug and Raleigh Child Seats recalled
Raleigh have issued a recall notice on the 21st May for all Avenir Raleigh Snug Bicycle Child Seats. The device is fitted with a faulty quick release brackets. The defect has been detected on the bracket used for attaching the Child seat to the bicycle frame on certain models. Under extreme conditions the frame bracket may fracture causing the seat to detach from the bike, potentially endangering the child.
The models affected are the Avenir Snug (Silver body) sold through Cycle Shops and the Raleigh Child Seat (Red body branded Avenir) sold exclusively through Argos. No other Avenir or Raleigh models are affected.
As a precautionary measure, the frame brackets of child seats sold since 1st November 2006 are being recalled. A replacement modified clamp has been produced which has been tested under extreme operational conditions.
If you have purchased one of the above Snug seats or an extra bracket for fitment to an additional bike then you are advised to check to see which type of bracket is fitted. If on checking you find you do have one of the affected brackets then immediately stop using the child seat and contact Raleigh for a replacement bracket.
