The sad deaths this week of 2 Servicemen involved in separate military accidents highlights the fact that the MoD, like any employer, is responsible for the safety of its employees while at work.
Private Michael Minns from the Royal Logistic Corps was tragically crushed to death whilst performing a "first parade" check on a military vehicle with another soldier. The accident happened when Private Minns was trapped between the vehicle and a mobile flatbed transporter. The second accident involved a Royal Marine, Lance Corporal Gordon Campbell, who was taking part in a training exercise involving "fast roping" from a helicopter when he fell. Both incidents are now being investigated by the MoD and the Health and Safety Executive.
