Irwin Mitchell’s Personal Injury team won a six-figure sum for an ex-soldier who was involved in a serious accident while on his motorbike.
Our client, Ethan, had been riding his motorbike on the way to work when a car travelling in the opposite direction collided with him, having cut across his path.
As a result of the accident, Ethan sustained a range of severe injuries including a broken collarbone, soft tissue damage and bruising to the chest, internal bleeding in the kidney area and soft tissue damage to his spine. He also suffered psychological trauma and has since been diagnosed with a mild depressive illness, undergoing a course of cognitive behavioural therapy.
Ethan has wide-ranging aching and restriction of movement on account of his orthopaedic injuries. He continues to suffer from pain and weakness in both his shoulder and his right knee.
As well as enjoying a long career in the army and SAS, Ethan had taken part in triathlons and Iron Man competitions prior to the accident, making his loss of ability to take part in sports particularly difficult. Ethan’s work required a high degree of physical fitness, and his injuries have impacted his capacity to uphold his job description, preventing him from being promoted as he would have been.
Ethan contacted Sofie Toft, one of our expert serious injury solicitors, and she was able to help with his claim, securing compensation of £200,000.
On settlement he and his wife wrote: "All the thanks goes to you Sofie. Aside from the outcome of the monetary award, going through the process enabled us to have our catharsis moment and hopefully now we can move on with life."
