Irwin Mitchell has recently represented a woman involved in car collision on a zebra crossing.
The woman was on route to spend some quality time with her husband, who was a patient at the Northern General Hospital; during the Christmas and New Year period, when the incident happened.
Parking her car on a nearby road, the woman walked down the small hill towards the zebra crossing, which allows visitors to access the hospital building. The woman stopped and checked the road was clear, before continuing. As she made her way across the crossing, a car turned right from the nearby junction at the bottom of Barnsley Road entrance to the hospital and collided with the woman on the crossing.
The woman was taken by a passer-by to the ward on which her husband was an inpatient and from there, round to A&E Department. She was x-rayed and found to have fractures to her knee. This required surgery and the woman was kept in the hospital for a number of days. She was eventually discharged with physiotherapy and hydrotherapy.
Irwin Mitchell represented the woman after she had been left with a limp and was off work for a number of weeks. Irwin Mitchell was able to obtain over £10,000 in compensation as the drivers Insurers admitted liability in full.
