Mandeep Khroud

Biography
I specialise in UK immigration law for individuals and businesses where immigration status is central to wider personal, commercial or family objectives. I am regularly instructed by high‑net‑worth individuals, family offices and professional advisers to provide clear, pragmatic advice in complex and time‑sensitive matters.
My practice includes advising business founders, private investors, creatives and senior executives on relocating to, remaining in, or settling permanently in the UK, often through discretionary or exceptional immigration routes. Alongside my private client work, I lead on strategic business immigration for corporate groups, advising on sponsor licences, workforce mobility and compliance, frequently working alongside corporate, tax and employment considerations.
I am particularly experienced in managing sensitive and high‑risk matters, including those involving family separation, domestic circumstances, mental health considerations or reputational issues, where discretion and judgment are critical. Clients value my calm, assured approach and my ability to combine technical precision with commercial awareness. As a Partner at Irwin Mitchell, I work closely with colleagues across the firm to deliver integrated, high‑quality advice tailored to each client’s objectives.
Key highlights
The case concerned a high‑profile individual who had built an established life and career in the UK but faced significant immigration challenges following the breakdown of a relationship and highly sensitive personal circumstances. The matter engaged complex issues around immigration status, personal safety, mental health considerations and the individual’s ability to remain lawfully in the UK.
The case required a carefully structured immigration strategy that went beyond the standard rules, relying on discretionary and human rights‑based arguments supported by detailed evidence. Particular care was needed to manage reputational risk, ensure the client’s welfare was protected, and present the case to the Home Office in a way that was both legally robust and sensitive to the personal context.
The outcome demonstrated the importance of a bespoke, evidence‑led approach in cases where immigration status is intertwined with wider personal and professional consequences. It also highlighted the need for close management of vulnerable client issues, strategic engagement with the Home Office, and clear, pragmatic advice throughout a highly pressured and emotionally challenging process.
I successfully assisted a multinational organisation in retaining its sponsorship licence following a Home Office compliance warning. The client had recently undergone a rebrand as part of a wider global strategy and submitted a request to update the name on its sponsor licence. After a prolonged delay, the Home Office refused the request, alleging a failure to disclose an earlier change in ownership when control shifted between holding entities within the wider corporate group. The client was given just 20 days to submit a new sponsor licence application or face revocation of its existing licence.
I was instructed urgently and led the preparation of a new sponsor licence application, addressing both the historic corporate restructuring and the immediate need to sponsor a Skilled Worker visa for a senior executive. Through detailed and strategic representations, I successfully demonstrated that the earlier administrative oversight by the client should not delay or prejudice the new application. The Home Office granted the new sponsorship licence within weeks, enabling the Skilled Worker visa application to be submitted the same day and approved within 24 hours.
This matter highlights the complexity of corporate immigration compliance and the importance of decisive, expert legal intervention when Home Office action threatens business continuity.I was instructed by a UK sponsor that was facing the serious risk of its sponsor licence being revoked following concerns raised by the Home Office during compliance scrutiny. The proposed revocation would have had significant operational and commercial consequences, including the loss of over 50 sponsored workers and disruption to the business.
I became involved at a critical stage, when the Home Office had indicated its intention to revoke the licence. I carried out an urgent and detailed review of the sponsor’s compliance arrangements, record keeping and internal processes, identifying the issues relied upon by the Home Office and the steps already taken to address them.
I prepared and submitted comprehensive legal representations to the Home Office, clearly evidencing the sponsor’s continued commitment to compliance, the remedial measures implemented, and why revocation would be disproportionate in the circumstances. The representations demonstrated that any shortcomings were capable of resolution and did not justify the most severe sanction.
Following the representations, the Home Office accepted that revocation was not appropriate and did not proceed with revoking the sponsor licence, allowing the business to continue sponsoring its workforce without interruption.
What do you like about working at Irwin Mitchell?
What I value most about working at Irwin Mitchell is the people. Although it is a large firm, there is a genuine culture of support and collaboration. Colleagues are always willing to help, share their expertise and work together to find the right solution. It means you never feel isolated—there is always someone you can turn to, no matter how complex the issue, which makes it a rewarding and supportive place to work.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?
The most rewarding part of my role is the variety. I work with an incredibly broad range of clients and challenges, and because immigration law is constantly evolving, no two matters are ever the same. It keeps the work interesting, demanding and intellectually stimulating.
I also really enjoy working on complex, time‑sensitive matters for both businesses and individuals, where the advice I give can have a real and immediate impact on someone’s life or livelihood.
What gives me the greatest sense of pride, however, is seeing the Immigration team grow from strength to strength. Building a team full of exceptional talent, supporting their development and reflecting on how far we have come together is hugely rewarding. Being able to do that while delivering high‑quality, joined‑up advice to our clients is what truly makes the role so fulfilling for me!
What inspired you to get into law?
I was inspired to go into law after watching Ally McBeal. While real‑world practice involves fewer musical hallucinations, it set me on a career I still love.
What do you do away from the office?
Away from the office, I would love to say I’m dedicated to the gym life—but that would be wildly misleading. Instead, I’m far more likely to be found watching sport, particularly football, as a very committed Liverpool supporter. Most of all, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, which is the perfect counterbalance to a busy working life.
