Biography
I help families, professionals, and charities, navigate and resolve claims over a deceased’s estate or trust.
I handle a wide variety of issues, such as:
- Claims about the validity of a Will
- Challenges to disinheritance
- Resolving errors in the drafting of a Will
- Resolving errors in the management of a trust or estate.
I've acted in a broad spectrum of estates – from high value international estates with complex trust arrangements, to modest estates where an early resolution was essential to make sure that a family didn't have to sell their home.
I guide clients through the challenges these types of claims present, and I will always explore whether an early settlement is possible. My experience has taught me that a solution a client has chosen can be invaluable, and in my many years practising I have found that just as no family is the same, no case will be. Every case will need its own solution, unique to its facts and the personalities at play.
What inspired you to get into law?
At school, I always struggled to find a subject that truly took my interest. I was fascinated by people - and was always looking for a cause to champion - but the logical and analytical part of my mind wasn’t satisfied by the standard humanities on offer. When I (accidentally) took Law at A Level, I knew I had found my home.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?
When you resolve a case and you know that the client will be able to move on with their life. Litigation is stressful under the best of circumstances, let alone when you have suffered a death of a loved one as well. Unlocking an estate and achieving a settlement for a client is immensely rewarding.
So, counterintuitively, one of my favourite things to say to clients is goodbye!
What do you like about working at Irwin Mitchell?
The team. I am fortunate enough to work with leaders in the field, and I know that no matter what issue a client is facing, we as a team will have the knowledge and experience to help them through it. To work in such a supportive environment is fantastic.
What do you do away from the office?
I have two small children who keep me busy. I spend most of my time trying to keep up with them and their constantly evolving interests.
When I do get some time to myself, I love going for a walk and visiting the cows near our house. I find it incredibly peaceful.
